Many entrepreneurs tinker with their new profession before they jump into it with both feet. This is typically what's called being a “Hobbyist”.
But there comes a time when you begin to feel a sense that all of your efforts are starting to pay off.
You start noticing that there's an internal confidence shift and an external awareness that your product or service may in fact really have two legs to stand on.
It's possible that up until now you were playing small. Almost as if you weren't quite sure that your entrepreneurial venture would work out. However, with your business starting to take off, more clients and customers arriving and the fact that you're sensing there's no turning back now, you know it's time to take your business to the next level.
How exactly do you shift from hobbyist to serious solopreneur? It will take both an internal and external shift and here are some ways you can start.
The Internal Shift
There's a certain confidence that's necessary to become an entrepreneur. Some people have it and others need to acquire it.
It's not easy being told “No” multiple times, learning how to sell and adjust to putting yourself out in the public eye. Nor is it easy or pleasant to deal with ridicule and criticism. However if you are following your journey and know that your service or product is marketable then gaining the confidence will come when you see that you are creating results for clients and selling your products takes on a life of it's own.
To develop your confidence as a Serious Solopreneur I recommend starting with the following:
- Read books written by Entrepreneurs
- Surround yourself and start hanging out with other Entrepreneurs
- Work with a Mentor to teach you how to shift your mindset, learn essential business building and marketing
- Invest in your Entrepreneurial education — learn how to become an Entrepreneur
Next you'll want to work on your Outer Game.
The External Shift
Have you ever noticed that when you get your haircut you feel better about yourself? What about when you wear an outfit that makes you feel sensational?
There's no denying that what happens with your External Game is connected to your Inner Game.
To step into a Serious Solopreneur you will need to make the external shifts and here's how you can start:
- Get a haircut or style that is professional and flattering
- Dress as well as you can afford that represents your personality, brand and business
- Upgrade your website by polishing your brand and design
- Get the best business cards you can afford that match your website
These are some simple ways to start upleveling yourself and your business so you can step into the Serious Solopreneur your business needs you to be.
