How to Build Your List of Targeted Fans and Future Clients

When I first start working with clients, one of their initial intake questions is “How many people do you have on your list?”. Quite often when I look at the number I know that they were telling the truth when they tell me that they weren’t focusing on list building.

I’m sure you’ve heard this by now, but if you don’t build your list online then you don’t get as many clients and make as much money. It’s really that simple.

When I ask them which strategies they’ve been focusing on for list building I’m not shocked to find out that they’re barely doing anything.

There’s something to be said about building a mailing list of targeted fans and future clients – it makes growing your business online that much easier.

When you have a targeted email list you have the opportunity to make more offers, launch your programs, services and products so they sell, and make more money.

No matter where you are in your business, (newbie or advanced), list building must be done at all times.

The great thing is that there are easy ways to automate the process and even some advanced techniques that help you achieve 100’s to 1000’s of fans quickly.

Here are a few basic things you need to make sure you’re doing to build your list:

Create a Free Offer that Converts

If you have a website then you need to have a free offer that converts your ideal clients to your mailing list. I can’t tell you how often I see Free Offers that don’t convert.

A great Free Offer is something that your target market will want. It can be a checklist, assessment, report, audio or video series. But no matter what it is, it must be enticing enough to make your target market leave their name and email in exchange for it.

Quite often when I’m doing an initial client assessment I check their Free Offer to see if it converts. Things you want to make sure are, is the title attractive enough? Is the offer enticing? Is it placed on your website where it can easily be found?

Test Your Free Offer

What if you have a great offer and it’s visible on your website, how do you know if it’s converting? I suggest you check your Google Analytics to see how many people are landing on your website. Then go to your mailing service and check how many people are on your list. If the numbers are really far apart then you need to consider that your offer isn’t converting and it’s time to create something that does.

Automate Promoting Your Free Offer

Some list building can be done in your sleep. I want you to set and forget some simple things that will allow you to sign people onto your mailing list at any time.

Include your Free Offer in your email signature. Schedule Facebook posts and tweets on Twitter to encourage your fans to sign up for your list. Include your Free Offer in all of your guest blog posts.

The idea is that you will cover people coming from different angles to join your list.

Make list building a priority and if you do you will reap the rewards in no time.
