Summer is typically the best time of year to recharge your batteries and take time off. But when you’re an entrepreneur that derives income from when you work and when your clients are available to work with you, the summer can be a very stressful time.
You’ve likely seen entrepreneurs who take the summer off. Some I’m sure actually do, while others just say they do.
What I’ve come to learn about taking the summer off is that it’s entirely possible to do if you’ve set up your business model to make it so.
So how do you create a business that allows you to take 1, 2, 10 or more weeks off and not skip a beat in how much money goes into your bank account? You design a freedom-based business model. Here are some ways to start:
- Decide How Much Time You Want Off Every Summer
You can’t determine your income if you don’t know when you’ll be working. You also can’t take time off if you don’t decide how much to take off and when you do it.
When I’m design business models for my clients this is one of the first things I do. I help them identify when they’ll work and when they won’t.
Take time to do this for yourself. Once you know when you’ll take time off, block it off on your calendar. Then you can plan everything else around it.
- Create Passive Income Streams
If you have a service-based business that means you’re only getting paid while you’re working in your business so then taking time off without pay is going to be a real struggle for you.
One of my clients used to earn money only when she worked with clients, but after we designed her online course, launched it and created webinars to sell it, she was soon able to create more passive income streams.
If you have been thinking about a passive income stream as a way to leverage what you do while earning more, now’s the time to start.
- Leverage What You Already Have
A great way to generate more income in your business over the summer is to leverage products, programs and courses you’ve already got.
One of my favorite ways to earn income is to do it in my sleep. So once you’ve identified income streams you can leverage, next you can set up autoresponder emails to sell them.
Seen a “Summer Sale”? That’s a leveraged income stream. They're selling what they already have available.
Set it up early and you’ll be making more and working less.
- Evergreen Your Webinar
Webinars are one of my favorite marketing tools and after I design Signature Talks I then love to create the webinar marketing strategy. A great way to earn money all summer long is to evergreen your webinar.
What’s better than putting your webinar on autopilot so that while you’re at the beach you’re making some extra moola?!
- Create Programs with Recurring Income
Many entrepreneurs design programs that last for shorter periods of time. But I’ve come to realize that there are only certain services I offer that can be delivered on a short term basis. Because I work with entrepreneurs to create sustainable businesses, I need to work with them for months at a time. Creating programs that provide recurring income will allow you to make money all year round.
The summer doesn’t have to be your slowest season, if done right, planned out early…it can be even more profitable than your other seasons.
But remember, the secret ingredient is planning ahead!
Now that you have some ideas to avoid the summer slump, what are you going to do this summer to create recurring income so you can take more time off? Let me know in the comments below
