In late 2017 I set a goal to reach 1,000,000 in my business by the end 2018.
A stretch goal? 100%.
But as I wrote my goal in my Passion Planner and mapped out the path to my first million, intellectually I knew it was possible, intuitively I felt something was off.
There was clearly a misalignment somewhere. I felt it in my bones even as I said it.
While I've seen others do it. The moment I announced my goal, I felt it wouldn't happen.
“No..this is my goal ” I thought. “And this is the year I'm going to reach my first million dollars.”
A goal mind you, that I came up with…
…NOT from a place of what makes sense for me and my family, but a random number that I feel in the coaching and online business industry is one we've become programed to think we're supposed to strive for.
So to hold myself accountable to this random revenue goal, I enrolled in a coaching program to teach me how to do it and keep me on track.
Took a brief vacation over the holidays and committed to jumping back in full force the first of the year.
The first three weeks of 2018 were great.
Our daughter was still home from college break. We settled into the New Year and we were relishing the last few days before our son moved out and started his new job.
All seemed wonderful. I was on track. The kids were settled. My clients were making strides in their business development and I was working my million dollar plan.
But then it happened…
In late January while traveling I injured myself and hurt my neck.
Not one to ignore things, I immediately took action and tried to get some resolution.
But no matter what I tried the pain only got worse and as much as I tried living life as usual, I couldn't ignore the constant pain.
I continued to push.
Pushing through my sadness of our empty nest.
Pushing through the pain in my body.
Pushing to make my self imposed $1,000,000 goal for 2018.
All the while choosing to ignore that my body was clearly telling me to slow down and stop pushing.
A few weeks ago I finally reached my breaking point.
Unable to sit, stand or exercise for any length of time. I decided it was time to approach this problem a different way.
So I stopped.
I stopped pushing.
I stopped pressuring myself.
And I gave myself time to listen to what my body really needed.
It turns out that my body was craving more rest, yoga, meditation, gentle walks on the beach and physical therapy.
Not more stress, external pressure or striving to reach random revenue goals.
But I've come to realize that there was something even bigger at play when I set my $1,000,000 goal and felt that almost immediate disconnection to it. I now believe that I needed to prepare myself and my body for the shift it would require me to make.
Over the last few months I've come to determine a few things that need to be in order when you are working toward reaching your next revenue goal…
- Setting a goal is one thing – energetically aligning with your goal is completely different
- To step up to another level even if you think you're ready – inner work must be done with it.
- When life purposely slows you down it's because you're going too far too fast – focus on what's immediately in front of you first and keep working on everything that comes up before you move on to the next stage
- Have patience in the process and yourself – you will get there it may just be on a different timeline.
- Trust. Trust yourself and when you lose trust in yourself know that the Universe is there for you.
This year I've found that I've needed to get myself and my “house” in order.
For the first time in months I don't have pain.
Internally I feel a sense of lightness and greater understanding of my purpose.
And I'm now more aligned with my business vision than ever before.
What about the $1,000,000 goal?
It's still there and I'm certain I want to reach it in my own time and in my own way.
But in setting that goal I've been able to create a new definition of what a million dollar business looks like to me.
To me my $1,000,000 business looks like this:
- One that allows me to transform more transformational coaches, healers and conscious entrepreneurs businesses so they can not only monetize their business, but serve and support more people
- One that doesn't feel overly complicated and isn't filled with masculine energy
- One that allows me to give back and give more to the organizations I want to support
- One that allows me to incorporate more time for yoga, meditation, exercise, travel and family time
And if there's one thing I've learned it's that we must realize that there's a mind-body connection to wealth.
Honor your body. Release mental blocks. And continue on your journey to your goals.
Now I'd LOVE to hear from you. If we were sitting together having coffee and you could describe your million dollar business – what would you tell me that looks like?
