I used to think more marketing meant more clients so I got into the habit of producing marketing content on multiple social media channels all the time.
The process was exhausting and I'd been following the advice of various mentors who'd taught me that if I wanted more clients I needed to be seen everywhere.
The great thing was that I was getting seen everywhere – online and in person. But my marketing was barely producing the clients I needed.
It's not uncommon that I see that in many of my clients when they first start working with me as well.
In today's post I'd like to help you shift your thinking on this and also optimize your marketing strategy so you start producing better results.
- You don't need to be everywhere – you just need to be where your clients are. Are you stretching yourself too thin online? Take a moment and think about where you're spending your time. Are your clients where you're focusing your marketing? Are they responding to your marketing strategies? Are they turning into clients? Think about which social media platforms they're on and focus your marketing on 1-2 of them to start.
- You do NEED to have a mailing list (and you do need to stay in touch with it). I consider this a non-negotiable. If any of the social media platforms go away and that's where you've spent most of your marketing time, you're going to lose a great deal of headway. Although it may feel like you're adding more to your marketing plate by sending a regular newsletter, the more you do it the easier it gets. Plus, when you're in touch with your subscribers often, the more likely they'll be willing and interested in buying what you sell. In the end you'll do less marketing overall because you'll sell more to an active and interested list. So get writing and emailing your list!
- Choose at least one offline marketing strategy to attract more clients quickly. I recommend speaking and hosting workshops, use them in my business and teach my clients these strategies as well. In my business I host one 50-60 person workshop a year that allows me to fill my Revenue Makers Mastermind program and often speak about once a month in person. By only focusing on these effective strategies I don't have to work on as many other offline strategies and spread myself too thin.
- Host webinars as a way to reach more people online. One of the other ways I attract clients is through hosting webinars. At one time I used to host a significant amount of live webinars over the course of the year, but as my business evolved and I discovered evergreen webinars I learned how to incorporate them into my business to create more leveraged income. It's not necessary to host webinars frequently once you learn how to create a webinar that attracts clients. Once you know how to create one that sells then you can automate it. And there you go…another example of less marketing but an opportunity to attract more clients.
Marketing doesn't have to be all consuming and you don't have to do a lot of it. You just need to pick and choose the right strategies that will work for your business.
