It’s so hard to keep going! I don’t know how long I can keep this up! When will it ever get easier?
Have you ever felt like that? Like maybe you’ve been working so hard to achieve your business dream and it’s taking much longer than you’d ever expected?
Did you know that it takes roughly 18-36 months to really set a solid business foundation? I’m not trying to be the bearer of bad news but you must know that growing a business is like training for the Olympics. It takes repetitive action on a nearly daily basis and you must exercise the right muscles to develop. In an Entrepreneurs case it’s their brain.
After the excitement period of starting a business ends you’ll find that there’s a period of doubt and frustration that enters the picture. My clients have often been exhausted and wondered how they’ll possibly keep going. One client recently said after crossing a new bridge, “Really, I thought by now things would get easier?”
My reply,“Yes, some things will get easier, others will take longer to master but to stay fresh in your business you must always stay ahead of the learning curve”.
In my particular case I’ve been growing my business for a few years. Yes, along the way I rebranded but it still counts. There’ve been plenty of times when I’ve wondered how can I keep up the strength to keep doing this and is this ever going to work out? But I’ll tell you my secret to keeping my eye on the big picture-it’s that I completely believe in my success.
Here are just a few things I do to help myself and my clients keep an eye on the prize and allow myself to believe in my own success, check out my list below, I encourage you to do the same:
- Establish yourself as an expert in your field
- Talk openly about your goals and dreams
- Uncover challenges and obstacles and tackle them as they arise.
- Work with a mentor to learn techniques or strategies for further development
- Study what successful entrepreneurs do such as Richard Branson and Oprah Winfrey
- Learn all you can about your field
- Mastermind and brainstorm with others to grow your business
- Take mental and physical breaks
The most important thing you can do is to be very gentle on yourself. Many of you are juggling a job and or family at the same time. Recognize that entrepreneurship is new to you. It will get easier over time.
If you find yourself not enjoying growing your business, talking negatively, listening to your self doubt and or exhausted from the stress it can take on you then I encourage you to take a break. Talk to someone and reevaluate your goals. Take a look at whether you’re spinning your wheels unnecessarily, taking action on the right things or if your expectations are too high. We often expect too much of ourselves too soon. Pace your race!
