I’ve built my business using 3 top marketing strategies … and (you may have guessed it!) they all involve speaking.
Speaking Is Not One-Size-Fits-All
Speaking is a remarkably reliable way to attract and convert quality leads. And, even better, there are several ways to go about using speaking as a marketing strategy.
The top 3 ways I use speaking in my business include live, in person speaking, webinars, and live events. I can’t even say I have a favorite because they each have impact in different ways. And a marketing strategy that incorporates some or all of them, allows for variety and flexibility.
The Versatility of a Talk
When you know the specific talk to design around your topic and how to deliver it, you’re off and running. And once you have it, your one talk can be multi-purposed to be given through all of my top 3 speaking delivery methods: in person, webinar, and live event. Sounds tricky? It’s not! With the right guidance on how to adjust your talk to each audience, you can reap the benefits of a talk that converts.
And as you tweak your talk for each of the formats you’ll ensure a process that helps you stop the struggle of:
- Finding and attracting clients.
- Getting your message heard.
- Wondering how to create a pipeline of leads.
- And worrying about how to fill your client roster, programs, and events.

Let’s take a look at the different options for delivering your talk.
In Person Speaking
Perhaps the most often used delivery method, live speaking can’t be beat for making an immediate connection with attendees and also having an opportunity to follow up immediately following your talk.
In this version of speaking, you position your topic, deliver high-value content, and extend an invitation to connect beyond the talk. This could mean anything from a free call with you, to signing up for your email list, or a paid offer if that’s an option. I use this method to generate leads, get sales conversations, sell my courses, and fill my events.
Let’s be real here. I know this one scares some people so let’s just get that out in the open. AND know that when you have a webinar talk design formula and support to carry that out, webinars can become second nature.
Hosting an online webinar is a convenient way to use speaking to reach people anywhere they are in the world. And connecting virtually can be just as strong as in person when your talk and your content are strategically designed and planned. I’ve been hosting webinars for years and years and it’s one of my favorite things to teach.
Holding a Live Event
Deep breath. I know that if “webinar” made you shiver a bit, this one can make you quake. But hang with me for a moment. Remember back to a time when you were at an event that offered a lot of value and connection with others, and knowledge and action that you brought home with you? Wasn’t that something? Were you in awe of the host?
Now, imagine that host could be you! You can design your talk to be delivered at a live event you offer. And before you get itchy again, this can mean anything from a brief couple of hours in a small venue (even your home) to a large, multiple day event and every combination in between. Your event is an experience you design wrapped around the content of your talk.
I’ve done them all! Short, small live events delivered in an afternoon, and 3-day events filled to the brim with people. The beauty of it is that you can start small and grow. And the best news is that even small events can generate large returns and massive income. It’s all about your content, your delivery, and your offer.
